The long term solutions focus area is sharing and developing a broad and meaningful vision of the future energy mix. Members are exploring the potential contribution of various technical and non-technical solutions to meeting future energy needs with the vision of reaching net zero carbon emissions by the end of the century. As part of this, we are assessing the role of the oil and gas sector, as well as identifying enablers, barriers, and disruptive factors.
‘Long term’ is understood to be up to 2050 and beyond. Initial work has been on:
Sharing each member company’s vision of the long-term energy mix, in order to identify breakthrough technologies or other disruptive factors from change in customer behavior, implementation of digital solutions, or regulatory evolution
Identifying key enablers and barriers to a lower carbon future, in order to have a shared understanding of how the oil and gas sector can support the enablers and overcome the barriers
Initiative members currently more engaged on this focus area include BG Group, BP, Eni, Repsol, Saudi Aramco, Shell and Total.
